Our Snowy Street

This is our first winter in the apartment, and now that we have a little space heater we move from room to room with us to keep it toasty, I am enjoying it a lot more. I love how much our street changes with the seasons and they are all beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. We are happy campers.

I asked Mark if we could dig out and go to the grocery today. I was craving "the best soup ever" I found the recipe during my art school days and it really is the best soup ever.

It is  hearty and healthy which is nice, plus there is alway so much left over we can eat for a week (I love this part because I hate to cook). Whenever I took this to the studio and warmed it up everyone came around to find out what was smelling so good. My home cooked food and YES it is delicious thank you!

Check out the recipe here.

Happy Memorial Day

I hate saying goodbye to Summer so I am going to say hello to all of my favorite fall things like caramel apples, the smell of burning leaves, sweaters, jackets and boots.

I am going to have to run tomorrow

I made my first ever apple pie today and to tell you about it I made a scrapbook kind of image, but since I can't post any pictures bigger than this on here you will have to go over to my flickr if you would like to read it.

Grandma's Cooking

We took Grandma to the bank, and the farmers market this morning she bought tomatoes of every color. For dinner she made me some fried green tomatoes, they tasted like summer at her house.

Best Present Ever.

Donna and Jim got us a Weber grill as a engagement present, we were excited at the time but if we had known all the awesome things that we were going to make with it we probably would had done cartwheels.

As soon as it got warm we started grilling out. Steaks, salmon, hamburgers, chicken wings. But then we got in to a rut where we were grilling the same things over and over again even though they were delicious every time we wanted something new.

A couple cook books have been inspiring us this week and we had the best dinner that has come off the grill yet.

Grilled Shrimp
1/3 Cup Olive Oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon garlic powder pepper blend
Jumbo Shrimp, peeled

Put everything in a zip lock and let the shrimp marinate in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes. Then throw the shrimp on the grill until they look like they are done.

Grilled Pineapple and Watermelon
Drizzle some honey of the pieces of fruit and throw em on the grill. Mark says to take it off when the char marks appear. The pineapple was awesome, the watermelon was watermelon, you cant really mess that up.

Asparagus
Cover with Olive Oil and season with salt and pepper, then throw them on the grill until they are done how you like them.

Friday:
Donna and Jim took me out to Maggiano's Little Italy for my birthday, and got me this awesome chandelier!

Went out with Mark's family to Terry's Turf club, The Wooden Nickel, and Findley Market where we successfully tracked down the Waffle Guy.

Then we went back to my house to see the new floors and celebrate my birthday again! Emma got me this pig. The cicada didn't come with it. Mark put it there to be funny.

Father's Day :

And tested out my new remote Mark got me for my birthday!

Finished the day off with a lovely Father's Day cook out.

BEST THING I HAVE EVER HAD!

Tyler got a 24oz bucket of this stuff for helping out some of his rich friends. I don't think he liked it to much, Mike didnt really care for it, and Mark said he didn't understand it. I on the other hand think it might be my new most favorite thing. You can get it at peterbrook.com

Saturday in the land of cleve

We had a busy Saturday in Cleveland.

Adam and Kendra took us out to The West Side Market to ogle at all of the yummy food.

These were taken while standing on the overlook where everyone enjoys their food after they have tired of walking around. The light was pretty amazing.

Here is Mark enjoying his Gyro. We waited about fifteen minutes for these and they were totally worth it. I need to stop thinking about them because we might end up back in Cleveland next week for lunch.

After this we went and looked at frozen Lake Erie for about ten minutes, then went to the Mac store and Crate and Barrel before heading back to the apartment for pizza.

A little help

A couple weeks ago Mark bought me Nigella Lawson's cook book How To Eat. It doesn't have any pictures, which usually is the only kind of cook book I like. But this isn't any ordanary cook book. There are some traditional recipes, add one cup of this, 2 tablespoons of that. Mostly though she talks you through it. It's like having June Clever in the kitchen to politely remind you when you need to turn the heat down.

Tuesday Night Dinner

I decided that I wanted to make my Mom's Chile Soup tonight. It was always one of my favorite meals she made. I had made it before on those nights when she wasn't home in time to make dinner and as the oldest girl the responsibility of food fell to me. I remembered it being super easy but I couldn't remember any thing she put it in. So before I left for the grocery store I called her up and asked her how she made it.

"Oh, I always just made the recipe of the back of the McCormick Chile Seasoning Packet."

And I thought it was some special recipe that only my mom knew about.

Mom's Chile Soup

1 Chile Seasoning Packet
1 lb Ground Beef
2 Cans Diced Tomatos
2 Cans Spicy Kidney Beans

1. In a large skillet cook the beef, drain fat transfer to large pot.

2. Mix in seasoning, tomatoes, and beans with the liquid. Bring to boil then reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes occasionally stirring.

3. Enjoy

I called him Frank

Mark and I went out to lunch today and as I was enjoying my Tuscan Chicken sub I looked down to see this happy little guy smiling up at me. He was delicious.
