I resolve to make everyday brighter.

If there is one thing I learned in college it is don’t be mad. I know that it seems like a simple message to come away with after five years but in those five years I learned there is a lot to be angry about and everyone sure does seem to be angry. Angry about science, art history, not everyone loves the movie you love, not everyone thinks the exact same way you do, this person believes in Jesus, that person doesn’t, this hippie drives a hybrid, that ass hole drives a hummer, your daughter likes glitter, someone is taking a little too long in the shower. Anger is controlling the world and if we start with something little like, hey, its ok that we all like different things maybe that thought process could trickle up to our bigger problems.

Yes, there are problems we have every right to be mad at, it is easy to see that most of the time the world is totally unfair. The anger is necessary to help us see our problems but during the time of the 24 hour news cycle it has also become a way of life. In a search of things to fill the airwaves the talking heads are infecting everyone with anger simply because that is what makes people tune in. It is so easy to be angry lets move on to the not so easy stuff. We need to start listening to ourselves as well as the news and teaching our children understanding, equality, that the world can be a wonderful place if you make it that way. Things wont change overnight but if we start now our grandchildren will be able to live in a better world than we do. Change happens one person at a time and I don’t know about you but I am one person and I may not be able to do much but I can do a little and if everyone did a little we would get a whole lot.
